The International Tree Foundation (ITF), founded in Kenya in 1922 as “Watu wa Miti” (People of the Trees), is an international, non-profit, non-political conservation organization. Their mission is to plant, protect, and promote trees in partnership with local communities. ITF operates in several countries in Africa and the United Kingdom. Over the past century, they have planted more than 7.5 million trees, contributing to forest restoration, biodiversity enhancement, and climate change mitigation. By involving women in reforestation efforts, ITF empowers communities and teaches about the dangers of deforestation. International Tree Foundation (ITF) collaborates with local communities, schools, and organizations to ensure tree planting aligns with local needs and ecosystems. They combines tree planting with agricultural systems to improve soil fertility, enhance crop yields, and create sustainable livelihoods. ITF prioritizes planting native tree species to rebuild natural habitats and support local biodiversity. Trees are planted along contour lines to reduce soil erosion and enhance water retention & implements structures and techniques to collect and store rainwater for irrigation and tree survival. They provide education on sustainable forestry, nursery management, and climate adaptation techniques. ITF establishes tree nurseries managed by local communities to supply saplings for planting projects & ensures the use of high-quality seeds and saplings suitable for specific climates and regions. There will be regular monitoring of planted trees to assess survival rates and environmental impact.
